THIS JUST IN: Jane Magazine Folds

July 9th, 2007 Posted by V

RIP Jane MagazineCondé Nast have decided to fold 10-year old Jane magazine. Staffers were informed this morning of this decision. Started in September 1997 by Jane Pratt, Jane was intended to be the replacement for the irreverent Sassy (also start by Jane Pratt). Pratt was forced out of Jane in 2005 as advertising sales and circulation floundered. Pratt was replaced by Brandon Holley of Elle Girl and turned Jane from a forward-thinking young woman’s black book to a yet another ad-filled, trite, yawn-worthy piece of newsstand crap. And apparently the general public agrees with me on this.

RIP Jane, you had a good run too bad Holley filled your last days with blowjob tips and get-skinny-quick diet pill ads. You truly deserved better.

SERIOUSLY! I used to love Jane when Jane Pratt was their leader. When she left, all hell broke loose. The design of the magazine (my area of interest) seemed to lack the “oooh” quality (even tho Jane was never really design-y), and every time I purchased jane I felt like I had wasted my money. I knew they were going down… It’s too bad.

I bought the very first issue of Jane 10 years ago and have been a subscriber ever since. Yes they had a few rocky years, but I thought the last few issues were getting back to what Jane used to be. I feel sad, and will be wearing black for the next week - haha. I’m wondering if the publisher will be sending me a replacment to fulfill my subscription. If they send me Glamour, I’m sending it back.
